Chan Poker Review

We contracted a third party to write this review to get the most honest opinion/review about the ChanPoker.com poker client.

Chan Poker is the new home for 10 time WSOP bracelet winner Johnny Chan, with a software platform provided by OnGame Network and licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. The poker room has been gaining traffic at a steady rate since initial launch date and due to the massive weekly and monthly Guaranteed Payment tournaments as well as the ability to play with Johnny Chan himself it's pretty clear to see why. Chan Poker is offering all new players a substantial 100% sign up bonus up to $1000. Overall it's turning out to be a decent poker room. US players are not able to play at this poker room.

Level of Competition

Paving a way for a new room means an expected level of new comers and beginners. Chan Poker is no exception to this where the level of loose passive player peaks at the low limit to micro tables. You will clearly be able to see who these players are and will also note an average viewed flop percentage that is higher than the expected norm. This is not to say that you wont face any tight opposition at some of the higher stakes, but the general level of competition at Chan Poker is still relatively weak.

Game Variety

Chan Poker supports all the standard variations of poker you would expect from a poker room including; Texas Holdem, Omaha Hi & Hi/Lo, 7 Stud Hi & Hi/Lo with table being made available in short handed, full ring and HU. Since the poker room is still new on the scene you will find the vast majority of traffic at the cash hold em tables with Omaha being second choice for game play. On average you can expect to find over 20,000 players online during peak hours playing both tournaments and ring table supplying you with a nice mix of skilled players and of course action packed tables across the board.

Poker Tournaments

Since Johnny Chan is the owner of Chan Poker you can guarantee that the line up of tournaments will be nothing short of top quality, and starting with a weekly $100,000 guaranteed payment the poker room is headed in a direction for success. Tournaments are scheduled to start every 5 minutes making it easier than ever to find a game. Even with Chan Poker being a new face in the online industry you will still be met with some fantastic promotional tournaments to win seats to some of the greatest live events. Qualifiers and satellites are scheduled daily. Traffic is still on the lower side of the industry allowing room for value tournaments that are not only in great supply but include a daily $15,000 GP with a buying of only $5. All of the featured tournaments come in different variations with Chan Poker supporting, Turbo, Shorthanded, Full Tables, and Rebuys.

Poker Software

The software used by Chan Poker is provided by OnGaming Network who also provide software for Pokerroom, and Hollywood Poker. The OnGame Network consists of multiple poker rooms using one software provider allowing more players to be online at any given time. Chan Poker is available in a full download version as well as a java client for Mac and Linux users. The software itself is fully functional with an easy to use interface and tables supporting 3D characters. Players will be provided with more than enough statistical information relating to not only their opponents game play but also that of their own. This includes such features as; viewed-flop percentage, average pot size, seated-player's stack size and hands played per hour. Overall the gaming quality is consistent with most online poker rooms supporting the OnGame Network featuring solid playability, navigation and performance. Multi tabling is available however you will find some difficulty may be present with the window resizing option not available.

Here is a screenshot of the no-download version.  It runs in your web browser and looks just like any other downloadable poker client:

Poker School

Following suit with other online rooms, Chan Poker offers a Poker School. The only difference is this one is taught by Johnny Chan himself who is a living legend when it comes to the game of poker. Players will have access to a Multi media outlet where you will find interactive tools and features as well as Johnny Chan taking you step by step into some of the more well thought out strategic poker theory articles you can find anywhere. These are not only for beginners, but even a more seasoned player can learn a tip or two.  Also, Johnny Chan frequently plays in the cash games on the site, so look out for him, he may even sit at your table.

Chan Poker Support

Currently Chan Poker only provides email as a valid support option. Players can use a quick support button that is located in the poker room itself. This will enable a quick email contact form letting you enter your information and any concerns you may have for support. Over the coming months we expect other selections will be added. The support team is quick and courteous with wait times for players being about standard.

Payment Options

Payment/Withdraw methods available on Chan Poker include; Firepay, Neteller, InstaCash, Delta, Visa/Mastercard.
